Tuesday, December 8th I will be participating in a panel discussion about chronic pain and mental health. I am participating as a mental health professional and as someone who has chronic pain.

And what does that have to do with Online Therapy Institute?
I acquired a disability (sarcoidosis) over 20 years ago and for the first year of my illness I could not work. Honestly, I didn’t know if I would ever work again. Throughout that year I found support on the internet- in an online forum with people who had the same symptoms as me. I was able to find the right doctors and I had people to talk to. I was an “e-patient.”
As my health improved, I was able to work part-time from home and that is when I discovered online therapy. I joined one of the first e-clinics and a passion was born. A few years later, I met Kate Anthony and a few years after that we co-founded Online Therapy Institute.
Today’s technology
I still have sarcoidosis and with that comes chronic pain. I still have a passion for internet support and online therapy. I am grateful that I can share my story and guide others through programs such as the one I will participate in on Tuesday. Twenty-plus years ago, a live panel on the internet was a rare thing. Now the technology makes it easy. And that’s a good thing!

I am a Patient Leader
I am honored to be able to be of service in this way. The panel is co-sponsored by Stronger than Sarcoidosis, WEGO Health and NAMI. I came to be involved because I am a Patient Leader through WEGO Health.
