About Online Therapy Institute

The Online Therapy Institute is designed for clinicians and organizations who wish to enrich their knowledge about online counseling, clinical supervision and the impact of technology on mental health. The Institute, founded by Kate Anthony and DeeAnna Merz Nagel is a think tank for all issues mental health, cyberpsychology, technology and the internet. Our mission is to provide a platform that allows people to learn collaboratively from one another. As an Institute, we strive to disseminate information about research, education and training. Topics and issues of interest extend to internet and cybersex addictions, gaming, virtual worlds, social networking, SMS texting and online peer support.

DeeAnna Merz Nagel and Kate Anthony are both former Presidents of the International Society for Mental Health Online. The combination of their experience presents a breadth of knowledge about online counseling and supervision encompassing publications, presentations at international, national, regional and state conferences, consultation with many organizations, teaching and facilitating online counseling and supervision, and participating in international, national, regional and local organizations.

DeeAnna Merz Nagel, LPC, DCC is a psychotherapist, consultant and international expert regarding online counseling and the impact of technology on mental health. She specializes in text-based counseling and supervision via chat and email. DeeAnna’s expertise extends to assisting individuals and families in understanding the impact of technology in their lives from normalizing the use of technology and social media to overcoming internet and cybersex addictions. Her presentations and publications include ethical considerations for the mental healh practitioner with regard to online counseling, social networking, mixed reality and virtual world environments. Kate Anthony, MSc, FBACP is a psychotherapist, consultant and international expert regarding online counselling and the impact of technology on mental health. She runs OnlineCounsellors.co.uk, a training company for mental health practitioners who wish to work with clients online.
